While we advise never to wash your vagina (the inner canal that babies and menstrual blood pass through) as it cleans itself, it is necessary to keep your vulva clean. Do this by washing the outside of your vagina regularly with warm water and a natural feminine cleanser. You can also maintain good vaginal and vulva hygiene by wearing cotton panties and eating a healthy diet.
Steps on how to properly clean your vulva using the Tielle Intimates Nectar cleanser;
- When showering or bathing, wash your vulva with warm water and mild vulva cleanser like our natural Nectar Feminine cleanser.
- Shake the Nectar wash and pump 2-3 times into your palm
- Separate your labia and use the mousse to wash all around the clitoral hood and between your labia. This will wash off any secretions that get stuck in between skin folds.
- Rinse off all the mousse thoroughly. Make sure the water isn’t too hot
- Pat dry your vulva with a soft clean, dry towel.
- In addition to washing your vulva, clean the anus from front to back.
- NB: Do not wash inside your vagina. Avoid letting water or the wash get into your vagina canal.
More Vaginal and Vulva Hygiene Tips
- Wash all new underwear before you wear it (and for regular washing) with a small amount of mild unscented detergent. Then, rinse the laundry well or use the extra rinse cycle on your washing machine to remove all the detergents. You can also iron after drying.
- Wear underwear with a cotton crotch. Avoid wearing thong-style underwear, as they can irritate your vulva.
- While on your period, change your tampon/pad often. The vagina cleanses itself naturally. The cells in the vagina keep it at a normal pH.
- Never douche or use feminine deodorant sprays, bubble baths, wipes, bath oils, or other scented products on your vulva or vagina. They can irritate and cause allergic reactions or remove the natural fluid that keeps your vagina clean. These products are not necessary and may be harmful.
- The recommended feminine wash is meant for your vulva, not your vagina. Do NOT place soap or wash into your vagina.
- Avoid tight-fitting clothing.
- Pee and wash up after sex.
- Always wipe from front to back.
